Lafayette Band Selected as Program of Distinction

The Lafayette High School Band, under the direction of Dee Bishop, will receive Phi Beta Mu’s Earl D. Irons Program of Distinction Award. The evaluation panel was impressed with all aspects of Lafayette’s outstanding band program, resulting in a unanimous selection. “This is a testament to Mr. Bishop and his team's hard work, and the LHS band students' and families' commitment to a tradition of excellence,” said district Fine Arts Director Katherine Lowther.

The Earl D. Irons Program of Distinction recognizes programs that exemplify the founder’s ideal of honoring and promoting superior achievement, moral uprightness, and the international development of bands. Lafayette will be saluted during the Midwest Clinic in Chicago this winter. The annual Phi Beta Mu awards breakfast is tentatively set for Dec. 19 in the Marriott Marquis.

Phi Beta Mu is an international bandmasters fraternity.
