Lafayette Earns Kudos in 2026 Japanese Contest

Lafayette High School students excelled in the region’s 2026 Japanese Speech/Skit Presentation Contest, held March 28 in Richmond. 

Speech 

Level 1:

• 1st place: “My Hobby” by Evangeline Broussard

Level 2:

• 1st place: "Field Trip" by Mia Perez Abreu Marquez
• Runner-up: "My Life" by Lily Fields 

Skit

• 1st place: “Godzilla's Trip to Japan” by Ellyana Brown

The 13th annual contest was open to students learning Japanese in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee. Teacher Mariko Barnes led the Lafayette group.
