Lafayette Marching Band Earns 25th State Title

Lafayette High School’s marching band, known as the Pride of the Bluegrass, has brought home another Class 5A state championship. The 2025 finals, hosted Oct. 25 by Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, also featured a third-place finish by Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. 

The Kentucky Music Educators Association’s annual all-day competition pits the state’s top 30 bands in five classes, which are determined by the size of the school and the size of the band. The marching bands are rated on a scale of 0 to 100 by six judges who evaluate musical performance, visual performance, general effect, and field and timing.
