The annual Midwest Clinic, an international band and orchestra conference, will feature Lafayette High School’s jazz ensemble. Under the direction of Chris Strange, some two dozen students will perform during the Dec. 17-19 gathering in Chicago.
He noted only the best receive an invitation. “The application process is quite in depth,” he said. “ You have to submit both audio and video recordings of your ensemble, a written description of the history of the group as well as the overall program. Concert programs from the previous two years are also required.”

Strange expects next semester’s trip will be a “once in a lifetime” experience for his students. “To be invited to perform is one of the highest honors an ensemble can achieve,” he said. “Not only will the students perform to an audience of musicians and educators from around the world, they will also be able to attend some fantastic performances.”
